Newton Dee Community Craft Studio, Bieldside

Newton Dee is an intentional Community, living and working with adults who have additional support needs. The Community provide homes and workplaces for people with learning disabilities and other special needs, and the Community Craft Studio is a key building acting as both a work environment and a social space for the residents and wider community. A previous laundry workshop built in 1981, the thermal performance required improving, we therefore used VELFAC triple glazed units with a U value of 0.8w/m2 to reduce energy consumption

The desire was to use distinct colours on entrance doors and a subtle colour palette on windows, which would work alongside the use of natural finishes where possible. They decided upon wine red for doors and platinum grey for windows externally, and a clear lacquer pine finish internally which worked perfectly. Top hung electrically operated opening units were chosen to allow for high level ventilation with ground level operation.

So why choose Velfac windows & doors?
The coupling detail, airtightness and quality of finish are very pleasing, and the installation was handled professionally, we would certainly use again - Camphill Architecture.
